This talk will address an important cultural phenomenon, the epoch of Russian Romanticism, viewed by many scholars as a foundation for the subsequent growth of Russian literature. This period is characterized by many extraordinary facts and paradoxes which, however, under close examination appear to be quite natural. Russian Romanticism is similar to the Renaissance in Western Europe due to the intensity and universality of its prevalent aesthetic thought.
